New poll workers are stepping forward in Winneshiek County for the November election

The COVID-19 epidemic has many election officials worried that long-time poll workers—who tend to be elderly—will not volunteer to work in the upcoming November election.

Winneshiek County Auditor Ben Steines says that hasn't been the case so far in this county. Steines tells decorahnews.com, "I don't foresee a shortage" come November 3rd.  That's because around two dozen new people have applied to work on Election Day.

Steines estimates that he'll need around 60 poll workers in November—depending on how many polling places there will be.

Applications are still being taken from people wanting to work as a poll worker in November.  Information is available here. Those who are hired for the job will need to take a 2- to 3-hour training session shortly before the election.
