The City of Decorah will spend just under $238,000 to make repairs to two block of Court Street later this year.
Decorah City Council members voted unanimously Monday night to accept the low bid from Skyline Construction on the project, even though the bid was $38,000 higher than estimated. City Engineer Jeremy Bril said the project involved a lot of labor, so he doubted future bids would be much lower.
However, a companion project to create pedestrian bumpouts at the Broadway and Winnebago Street intersection was rejected. Bids on that project came in more than 25 percent higher than estimated. The project had been recommended by a citywide visioning process and Decorah City Council member Johanna Bergan said she'd regret losing the project. City officials will look for other funds to help pay the cost of the project.
