DNR Field Office staff are monitoring a fish kill Thursday on an unnamed tributary to Bohemian Creek. Bohemian Creek runs through the town of Protivin in Howard County.
DNR Fisheries staff were on-site and conducted a fish count. Initial reports are that approximately 5,000 dead fish were observed in the half-mile stretch of the tributary. No dead fish were observed in Bohemian Creek itself.
Water sample tests for ammonia were conducted. They returned negative. Samples were taken to test for pesticides. Those results will return in a week.
No source for the fish kill has been identified at this time. DNR staff continue to monitor the situation to determine a source.
