Ask The Answer Person: "Will there be high school football this fall?"

(Several readers have been asking The Answer Person the question "Will there be high school sports this fall?," especially as it relates to football):

The Answer Person says: "It's only recently that the fall high school sports situation has come into focus.

Both the Iowa High School Athletic Association, which regulates boys sports, and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, which regulates girls sports, have issued statements saying they're moving forward in planning to have high school sports this fall (football, cross country and volleyball).

The question is not so much 'Will there be sports?' but 'How will sports be handled?'  In other words, will there be limits on the number of fans allowed to attend games?  Will masks be required?  Both organizations say they're working on guidance for school districts and will release those details soon.
