Decorah City Council members spent nearly one hour Monday night discussing a request by Pulpit Rock Brewery to be allowed to use Wayside Park for an August celebration of the 5th anniversary of the brewery.
The Decorah Park Board last week opposed the event, but city council members were more favorable to the idea. "This is a reasonable request," said council member Kirk Johnson.
But it was council member Steve Luse who made the first motion--to deny Pulpit Rock's request. That motion failed on a 4-3 vote. A motion by council member Johanna Bergan to table the application to give Pulpit Rock two weeks to come back with more details of its plan then passed on a 5-2 vote.
Pulpit Rock owner Pete Espinosa told city council members he will describe how the brewery plans to safely hold its event. He says the brewery has dropped plans to include a fireworks display as part of the event. He also promised to detail how the brewery would encourage social distancing during the event.
