When will the Decorah School District make its decision about the 2020/2021 school year?

At last week's Decorah School Board meeting, Superintendent Mark Lane "hit the pause button" for moving towards a final decision on the district's Return to Learn plan. There is still loads of work being done, however, even though no formal announcements have been made yet about what the district's plan will be once the first day of school rolls around.

After receiving additional guidance from the state on Friday, Lane said in his July 17th email to families that "we hope to be ready to share greater detail of our plans for the start of the school year by the end of next week."

The final decision may be a little farther off as new information comes in and is constantly evolving. Lane and the Decorah School Board are taking into account the most updated information to make the tedious decision about the safest way for this unprecedented school year to begin. In a June 26th email to families, Lane assured the community, "The latest we would expect to make a definitive choice about the learning model in place to open the year is Monday, August 10."

Lane concludes his most recent email, saying, "Thank you for your support and patience as we work through our plans to return to learning as safely as possible."
