Absentee ballots request forms are now available for the November 3rd election.
Ballot request forms can be downloaded and printed off at the Iowa Secretary of State Office's website (click here) or the Winneshiek County website (click here). Requests can also be called in to the Winneshiek County Auditor at 563-382-5085.
Winneshiek County Auditor Ben Steines says, "Forms are also available in other locations. I'm planning to contact some local businesses and organizations to see if they'd like to have forms available at their places of gathering (grocery stores, churches, downtown store fronts, etc.)."
After absentee ballot request forms are filled out, they can be mailed to the county auditor's office (201 W Main St, Decorah) or left in the drop-box in front of the courthouse. The deadline to request a ballot is October 24th. When the request is received, an absentee ballot will be mailed to the voter. That ballot can also be returned to the county auditor's office by mail.
Even though absentee ballots can now be requested, the voting ballots won't be printed until October.
