Plans for a new downtown park are approaching reality

Posted: Tue, Jul 7, 2020 9:46 AM

The Decorah City Council has scheduled a public hearing at the beginning of August for the proposed Dry Run Plaza park project.

The new park on the east end of downtown Decorah will use land already owned by the City of Decorah and will be a pocket park similar to the Water Street Park on the west side of downtown.  Downtown Decorah Betterment Association has raised the needed funds through private donations, primarily from the downtown business community.  The Decorah Park Board has endorsed the project, but has stated the money for the park must come from private donations, not Park Board funds.

The proposed park would be located on East Water Street and next to Riverside Street.

Bids on the project will be opened at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 30th, with the Decorah City Council holding its public hearing August 3rd.
