In response to last week's spike in COVID-19 cases throughout Winneshiek County, Winneshiek County Public Health Director Krista Vanden Brink says, "Wear those masks."
Vanden Brink attributes the spike to people attending large group gatherings without taking the necessary precautions of staying 6 feet apart or wearing face masks. "I would think once, twice, three times before going to large group gatherings," comments Vanden Brink.
There are now 14 active cases in Winneshiek County, one of which is hospitalized. The other 13 people are managing their symptoms at home.
Locally, Allamakee County and Chickasaw County have 9 active COVID-19 cases each. Clayton County has 7 active cases. Fayette County has 19 active cases. Howard County has 21 active cases.
Statewide, there are 5,977 active positive cases.
