The wet spring may mean Winneshiek County farmers should spread more nitrogen on corn fields

It's rained a lot in Winneshiek County this spring.  Some rain gauges have reported over 17 inches of rain from April 1st through June 30th.

A study by Iowa State Professor of Agronomy Dr. John Sawyer says precipitation of more than 15.5 inches a spring in most of Iowa brings on a suggestion to make a supplemental nitrogen application.

Winneshiek County farmers who do not have a rain gauge in their fields can access precipitation totals from weather stations across Iowa from two networks—either the National Weather Service Cooperative Observer Program (NWS COOP) network or the ISU Soil Moisture network.
