(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Deborah Lathrop in response to a letter published by Kourtnie inquiring about the rules covering an unmown lawn):
"My recommendation would be to write a note to the address, offering to mow it for them. Sometimes people may be too frail to maintain their lawn, don't have the disposable income to hire help, may have had a mower (or machete) malfunction, or may be too depressed in these times to muster the energy to mow. Of course, some folks may be trying to restore prairie grass, in which case some landscaping advice and help might be welcome so that it could still satisfy the city rules (or promote discussion about those rules).
Instead of first resorting to a potentially punitively-experienced cascade of third party interventions, a generous offer of help on an individual level might go a long way."
