Neither Democratic State Assembly candidate Kayla Koether nor Democratic State Senate candidate Matt Tapscott are incumbents.  But the two have raised more campaign contributions so far than their Republican opponents.

The most recent campaign financing disclosure statement filed by Koether shows she has added $49,333 in donations in the latest period.  When that figure is added to the $4,278 she already had on hand, is gives her $53,611 cash on hand.  She has spent $6,655.88 of that, leaving her $46,955,58 in reserve.

Her opponent, Republic State Representative Michael Bergan, reports bringing in $10,500 in contributions in the last period and having a total of $14,807 in cash on hand.  Bergan reports having $12,316 in unpaid bills, which would leave him with around $2,500 in reserve.

In the local race for State Senate, Republican incumbent Michael Breitbach is not seeking re-election, so Democrat Matt Tapscott of Decorah faces Republican Michael Klimesh of Spillville.

Tapscott's latest fundraising report shows he has raised $11,035 in contributions during the most recent period.  When added to $16,159 in cash on hand to start, that's a total of $27,194 on hand.  Tapscott reports having spent just over $4,000 of that amount, but he still has $23,177 in reserve.

Klimesh, on the other hand, reports just $450 in donations, with no cash on hand to start and no expenditures against that $450 in donations.

A news release from Koether's campaign states her fundraising figures made her "the top fundraiser among all candidates in Iowa House races."  At this point, according to the campaign financing reports, she has over $44,000 more in her campaign fund than does Bergan.  Meanwhile, Tapscott has over $22,000 more than Klimesh has raised so far.
