RSVP volunteers are needed

Posted: Mon, Jun 22, 2020 12:24 PM

As the Decorah community moves forward and businesses and programs begin to plan for the safe inclusion of volunteers, the Northeast Iowa RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) is looking for more volunteers. The RSVP program partners with organizations in Allamakee, Howard and Winneshiek Counties and is sponsored by the Decorah Public Library.  RSVP is one of the programs offered through the Senior Corps and is designed to link people 55 and older with community needs.

RSVP matches each volunteer's skill and interest with local volunteer opportunities to ensure the right placement. There is no cost involved and volunteers can determine how often they volunteer. RSVP provides volunteer insurance and recognition for its volunteers, and volunteers gain a sense of purpose, increased self-confidence and a strong sense of community.

RSVP director Deana Hageman says, "We live in caring and giving communities where so much volunteering has already been occurring, but our needs will be greater than before."  Hageman says areas needing the most support currently are food pantries and meal delivery. Other volunteers are needed to make  masks, help at The Depot Outlet, and the Humane Society.

RSVP has around 65 fun and worthwhile local volunteer opportunities including working with children, animals, in nursing homes, in offices, historical locations, blood drives, assisting Emergency Management, and one-time events. Visit the RSVP website at https://www.decorah.lib.ia.us/rsvp to learn more about the program and to apply.  You may also call 563-277-5181 or email rsvp@decorah.lib.ia.us with any questions or to get started.
