Ask The Answer Person: "Are there any local beauty salons that are requiring mask wearing by everyone?"

(Leslie e-mails: "I need to get my hair cut, but I am concerned about COVID-19 safety. Are there any local salons that are requiring mask wearing by everyone, staff and customers? Are any offering to do haircuts outside?"):

The Answer Person says: "Let's tackle the outside haircut question first.  State of Iowa regulations prohibit haircuts from being done outside a salon.

As for local salons that are requiring masks to be worn, Eclips Salon and Day Spa doesn't require guests to wear masks, but it has their chairs spaced more than 6 feet apart, has an air exchanger that pours fresh air into the building and air purifier that traps all bacteria and viruses.  Most of all, Eclips has an entire separate salon for those clients that are at risk.

Three other salons have been mentioned as well. Rootz at 220 West Water Street is owned by Amy, who wears a mask and is the only stylist right now.

The Salon at 217 East Water Street has Stacey Mcelree, Steph Perry and Danny--Danny wears a mask and Stacey and Steph will if asked.

Finally, Coletta Fern Gooder at ri'aH at 1003 Short Street says their three stylists admit no more than six people in the salon at a time and they are spaced out at least six feet apart.  They also offer a good bit of advice--come in at the beginning of the day (before 9:00 a.m.) when salons typically are not as busy.

But the final bit of advice from The Answer Person applies to any local business you have questions about--pick up the phone and give them a call!"
