Decorah is doing a good job responding to the U.S. Census

The U.S. Census Bureau says Decorah has one of the higher response rates to the census.

Statistics released by the Census Bureau show 61.5 percent of Americans contacted have responded by mail, phone or online to the census questionnaire.  Iowa has one of the higher response rates—a statewide average of 67.8 percent.

Winneshiek County overall has a response rate of 71.5 percent.  Towns surrounding Decorah are reported with the following numbers: 58.8 percent in Ridgeway; 67.2 percent in Fort Atkinson; 67.3 percent in Calmar; and 71.1 percent in Ossian.

But the figure for census response rate in Decorah is even higher—more than 13 percentage points higher than the national average--a response rate of 74.6 percent.
