The City of Decorah will accept bids on the former Fox and Coon Club property at the Highways 9 & 52 intersection.
City council members on Monday night approved requirements on the sale of the property, including that it must be used for commercial purposes and that development of the property must be done within 36 months of the sale.
A public hearing will be held August 3rd to review proposals from potential purchasers.
Decorah City Council member Andy Carlson Monday night asked his fellow city council members, "Why are we selling it now?" He wants money raised by any property sale to be used for a specific, designated purpose.
Fellow city council member Ross Hadley countered that city council members won't be forced to sell the property and can meet some time over the next six weeks to discuss how proceeds from a property sale will be used.
The resolution setting forth the timeline passed, 6-1, with Carlson the lone dissenting vote.
