Winneshiek County Supervisors have approved applying for a second loan to pay for repairs to the Burr Oak sewage treatment system.
Four small 25 gallons-a-minute pumps installed to pump sewage up to a drainage field are inadequate to handle to outflow from two 95 gallons-a-minute pumps within Burr Oak itself. Engineering consultant Lindsay Erdman from Erdman Engineering told supervisors Monday he is drawing up a list of equipment needed to make the changes.
Supervisors approved the second loan application—in principle. Another vote on the matter will be taken next Monday if the USDA requires an official county resolution.
Burr Oak residents currently pay a $30/month fee for sewer services now. Burr Oak representatives say grant money from the USDA is scarce right now, but loans are available. Loans, of course, would require a repayment schedule.
