The Water Street offices of the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce will reopen on Monday, with office hours of 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Visitor Center at the Chamber will operate with staff assisting all guests and retrieving requested materials. During this first phase of the reopening process, public restrooms and drinking fountains will remain closed. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kristina Wiltgen says the organization will continue to evaluate schedules and safety measures for the foreseeable future.
The Chamber locked its doors on March 25th, but continued to work on behalf of local business and to respond to visitor inquiries and needs. It facilitated the infusion of $73,000 of Chamber Dollars and "Buy Now. Shop Later" gift cards into the local business community since March 1st.
The Chamber has continued to help local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. An online series of Community Connection sessions have been held with Winneshiek County Emergency Management and Public Health, with Luther College and NICC and with Winneshiek Medical Center. A virtual educational opportunity was hosted with Iowa Workforce Development in response to the many questions from both employers and employees on the changing unemployment environment.
Says Wiltgen, "The recent months have been trying in many ways. I think we have all gone through phases of feeling helpless, concerned, and even scared. I continue to be proud of this community. We demonstrate a willingness to take care of each other and that spirit will carry us forward."
