New felon voting rights bill passed in Iowa Senate

Posted: Thu, Jun 4, 2020 11:52 AM

The Iowa Senate passed a new bill that restores the voting rights of Iowa felons who have completed their sentences and paid restitution to victims.

The bill passed 95 to 2 with bipartisan support.

This new bill overwrites a law that required all convicted felons to send an application to the governor who could then restore their voting rights. Iowa was the only state requiring that application.
