Iowa lawmakers approve a bill to allow more guns in public buildings

The Iowa Senate has approved an Iowa House bill which would significantly broaden the state's existing firearms preemption law. The measure would allow people to carry loaded handguns inside public buildings and would subject local officials who enact gun safety policies to the possibility of paying damages.

The bill passed by a 32-17 vote, with Strawberry Point State Senator Michael Breitbach among those voting "yes."
