Decorah Bank & Trust is launching "greenpenny," a digital-only branch with the aim of serving industry and individuals who are concerned about climate change.
Digital-only means that the services provided by greenpenny are accessible to people in the U.S. through digital channels only and not within physical bank locations.
Decorah and Cresco Bank will continue to serve its customers at its three banking locations, on the phone, and online as always. Bank lobbies are expected to reopen mid-June with extra safety measures in place for customers and employees. In-person appointments remain accessible during this time of COVID-19.
Digital-only greenpenny will allow Decorah Bank to use deposits to finance renewable energy projects beyond the geographic areas it has traditionally served. Greenpenny will be digitally marketed in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois--the four states that are home to the Driftless area. Says Decorah Bank & Trust CEO Ben Grimstad, "As the climate movement progresses, people are looking for ways they can do their part to help support the use of clean energy. Because of our long-standing values, it seems natural to offer tech-based greenpenny to serve a community of like-minded individuals beyond Northeast Iowa."
