Viking Theatre to re-open Friday

Posted: Thu, May 28, 2020 11:18 AM

All Fridley Theatres were closed on March 17th, but Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds last week allowed movie theaters to reopen. Fridley Theaters chose to open just two of their movie theatres as test cases at that time, but on Friday, all Fridley Theatres will reopen, including the Viking Theatre in Decorah.

Things will look a little different when the theater opens up on Friday, but it's all in the name of safety. Movie showtimes will be staggered and spread out to allow ample time for cleaning, and to reduce congestion in entrances, lobby areas, hallways, and restrooms. Theatres will be filled to no more than 50 percent capacity, and patrons will be subject to a brief verbal health screening at the theatre entrance. Ushers will seat moviegoers in designated, socially distanced seats, and will usher them out afterward to ensure proper social distancing at all times.

Fridley Theatres and the Decorah Viking Theatre are asking patrons to adhere to the following measures to ensure everyone's health and safety:
  • Stay at home if you feel sick or have been exposed to COVID-19
  • Limit your group size to a maximum of six people
  • Arrive early and allow extra time for transactions and seating
  • Consent to a brief verbal health screening at the theatre entrance
  • Use credit/debit card for payment, if possible
  • Practice social distancing
  • Wear a face covering, if possible (encouraged, but not required)
  • Accompany and closely supervise children age 8 and under when they visit the concession stand or use the restroom
Fridley Theaters' Commitment to Communities states, "We sincerely hope that families and children will visit our theatres, but we need them to do so with extra consideration for others at this time.  We are asking older children to demonstrate mature, respectful behavior in and around the building, and we are asking caregivers to actively monitor younger children for proper social distancing and to keep them from unnecessarily touching surfaces. With the help of our guests and the dedication of our staff members, we make this pledge: We will do all we can to deliver a safe and comfortable movie-going experience to the people and communities that we serve."

Decorah's Viking Theatre will be open for movies and curbside popcorn to go from 3:00 p.m. until 9:15 p.m. Friday, 12:00 p.m. until 9:15 p.m. Saturday, 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, and 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday (June 1st through 4th). The theatre will be showing "Trolls: World Tour," "I Still Believe," and "The Way Back" during their opening week.
