Winneshiek Medical Center's guidelines moving forward

Posted: Tue, May 26, 2020 9:56 AM

Winneshiek Medical Center (WMC) released new guidelines as they open up their doors to more patients.

"These precautions include: increased COVID-19 testing capabilities, managed personal protective equipment supply, robust patient screening at all patient entrances, active monitoring of staff, universal masking, and enhanced cleaning of patient care and staff areas."

Under the new universal masking precaution, cloth masks are necessary for all patients and visitors. If one does not own a mask, one will be provided for them by the WMC. Staff also will also be wearing masks as well as face shields.

Patient screening will take place outside the building entrance at a screening tent. There will be temperature taking and COVID-19 symptom questions.

Inside, patients will no longer be seated in a waiting room. They will instead be escorted immediately to a clean exam room.

WMC is now also offering appointments through telehealth. Telehealth allows face to face appointments to happen online. Mayo Clinic Health System family medicine physician at Winneshiek Medical Center Scott Bohner says, "Provider teams will work with patients to determine [the] best plan of care going forward, whether that be in-person care, telehealth, or a combination of both."
