Iowa Governor Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Education have given school districts in Iowa the option to reconsider their school calendars for the 2020-2021 school year.
School districts now can start classes earlier than the normal start date allowed by law, August 23rd.
Around three dozen Decorah School district staff members met last week following the new guidance from the governor's office.
School Superintendent Mark Lane says the group considered several possible calendars that would have started classes earlier than August 23rd. But Lane states, "we felt the best decision was to maintain the calendar that the school board approved earlier this school year." That means the first day of school for students this coming fall will be on Monday, August 24th.
