Decorah Park-Rec Board delays a decision on the swimming pool season

Wait and see.  That will be the approach taken by members of the Decorah Parks & Recreation Board when it comes to making a decision on whether the Decorah Swimming Pool should operate this summer.

Board members wanted more time to digest information they were given Thursday night as they met for the first time in many weeks.  "They didn't say 'yes' and they didn't say 'no,'" said Park-Rec Director Andy Nimrod.

As of May 28th, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds will allow the swimming pools to operate--at least for lap swims and lessons.

Swimming pools in Waukon, Charles City, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City will be closed this summer. If the Decorah Park-Rec Board decides the local swimming pool should open for the summer, the State of Iowa's COVID-19 regulations will mean extra operating expenses for the pool, including additional staffing and additional personal protective equipment.  But Nimrod says board members would hate to disappoint local children, so they're taking more time to figure out the right approach.
