Ask The Answer Person: "Why isn't there anyone listed for County Treasurer on my June 2nd Primary ballot?"

(Matt recently received an absentee ballot for June 2nd's primary in Winneshiek County and noticed there wasn't any candidate named for the position of County Treasurer):

The Answer Person says: "This wasn't a printing error!  As we noted in March, there are three people running as independents in November--District 4 County Supervisor candidate Alvin Herold; District 5 County Supervisor candidate Scott Harlan Fjelstul of Ridgeway and incumbent County Treasurer Brenda Kreitzer.

Here's our explanation from March--and it's worth a reminder now: 'The winners of the Primary Election to be held June 2nd will then join the candidates with no party affiliation on the General Election ballot in November for the County Auditor, Sheriff, Supervisor, and Treasurer positions.'  In other words, the June 2nd primary only involves multiple Republican or Democratic candidates running for the same position--the November general election will have Republicans, Democrats and Independents listed on the ballot."
