The Decorah Planning & Zoning Commission is recommending that the Decorah City Council approve plans for an apartment complex on St. Lawrence Street.
Commission members voted 7-0 Monday night to recommend approval of the site plan. The development has drawn opposition from neighbors, who say the apartment complex would add to flooding issues and is out of character with the rest of the neighborhood.
But P & Z Commission members praised the developer for making changes in the original site plan and pointed to the need for affordable housing in Decorah.
The Decorah Board of Adjustment will meet at 7:00 Wednesday night to vote on whether to give a parking variance to the project. The Decorah City Council will then vote on the site plan next Monday.
