The Decorah School Board members voted to approve a two-year lease agreement for its bus barn with Bruening Rock Products at Monday's meeting.
While School Board President Ron Fadness stepped out of the meeting since he is currently an employee of Bruening Rock Products, other members discussed a slight increase in rent. The district currently pays $4,200 a month for its use of the Bruening property. When the new lease agreement begins in July, that payment will go up to $4,300 and then will increase again to $4,390 for the second year of the lease.
The district is still in the market for land, but Superintendent Mark Lane said, "This lease will suit us even if we are able to identify our next move."
Board member Krista Vanden Brink commented, "Bruening's has been good to us as we figure out what to do in the long term with the bus barn."
