Second phase of the Trout Run Creek Project will begin soon

The Iowa DNR says bid letting will be held some time this month on the second phase of the Trout Run Creek bank stabilization project.

Trees along the Trout Run Trail were cut down in late February and March in the first phase of the stream bank stabilization project.  The trees had to be cut down before the end of March because after that date bats could be roosting in the trees and their habitat is protected.

Iowa DNR District 3 Facilities Engineer Melvin Pacovsky tells decorahnews.com the fallen trees are all box elder trees.  He says when the second part of the stream bank stabilization project begins in June, the contractor will clean up all the trees as the first step in the project. 

The rest of the project includes stabilizing shoreline in four locations, resloping the river bank, replacing handicap fishing access, and seeding all disturbed areas. The second phase of the stream stabilization project has a completion date in July.
