Letter to the Editor: "The Decorah City Council and its cabal of followers continue to vilify Alliant Energy"

(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by C. Dennis Ohlert of Decorah):

"The Decorah City Council and its cabal of followers continue to vilify Alliant Energy.

I have yet to see any kind of written guarantee of service and rates if the City succeeds in acquiring the electrical service, nor any kind of cohesive plan to implement the takeover.  The last referendum was based on a lot of 'maybea' with nothing concrete presented to the voters.

I would like to see, in writing,  exactly how the City plans to implement it if passed.  Does the City really believe the citizens are willing to buy this pig in a poke in order to save the equivalent in dollars of a few trips to McDonald's on their electric bills?   Does the City think the taxpayers' pockets are so deep that they can take on millions in debt to buy out Alliant?

Is the City Council like the dog chasing a car who has no idea what he'll do with it once he catches it?

Meanwhile, the City is willing to put the taxpayers on the hook for a huge amount of money to move the electrical service for the Locust Road project.  I suggest the City quit acting like spoiled brats and either give Alliant Energy a proper franchise agreement or halt the Locust Road project until they can do it right."
