The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach office in Winneshiek County will hold Master Gardener training this fall.
By becoming a Master Gardener, area residents will expand their own knowledge and discover the many ways they can share what they know with others.
Those interested in becoming a Master Gardener should apply online by August 1st. The training consists of 40 hours of hands-on education, offered September through November, including a hands-on workshop at Iowa State Uuniversity on October 10th. Lecture and activity topics include vegetables, houseplants, compost, fruits, native plants, pest management and more. Class cost is $195, with a portion of that fee being reimbursed by the Winneshiek County Master Gardener program once certification is complete.
Once certified, Master Gardener volunteers can remain active members in the following years by completing 10 hours of continuing education and contributing 20 hours of volunteer community service.
