Good planting conditions are reported as NE Iowa farmers begin their season
"Farmers across Iowa have taken advantage of the warmer weather and widespread dry conditions over the past week," according to Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig.
Iowa farmers planted over one-third of the expected corn crop during the week ending April 26th, for a total of 39 percent planted. Soybean planting got underway with 9 percent of the expected crop planted, 10 days ahead of last year and 1 week ahead of the average.
Soil conditions are good statewide, with 94 percent of all farm acres having at least adequate topsoil moisture and 98 percent of all acres having at least adequate subsoil moisture.
