Winneshiek County health workers had a shock Monday morning when they went to the website of the Iowa Department of Public Health and saw the IDPH said there were 24 COVID-19 cases in Winneshiek County. That was more than double the figure of 11 cases heading into the weekend.
Then local health officials figured out what had happened—IDPH had included people in the Winneshiek County results who tested positive from results given in Decorah—but the people were residents of counties outside Decorah.
Now the IDPH has agreed that it entered the data incorrectly. Its newest map shows Winneshiek County with 15 cases—one more new case, added to the 14 cases Winneshiek County officials said existed at the end of the weekend.
The 15 COVID-19 cases puts Winneshiek County third on the list of NE Iowa counties—far behind Allamakee County's 86 cases and two cases behind Fayette County's 17 cases.
