Winneshiek County Public Health Director Krista Vanden Brink says the correct number of coronavirus cases in Winneshiek County is 14.
The Iowa Department of Public Health's map of coronavirus cases in the state, available at
https://coronavirus.iowa.gov/, says the number of cases in Winneshiek County has shot up from 11 to 24 over the weekend. That number isn't correct, says Vanden Brink. She says the actual figure is 14.
Vanden Brink says she believes testing done at the Lynch BBQ processing plant in Decorah last week turned up a number of cases--but that many of these were of people who don't live in Winneshiek County.
Statewide, Iowa has 5,475 coronavirus cases, with 118 deaths. That's an increase of over 1.150 cases in just two days.
In Northeast Iowa, Chickasaw County has 4 cases, Howard County has 6 cases, Clayton County has 12 cases, Fayette County has 15 cases and Allamakee County now has 68 cases. Those totals could increase if the 9 cases assigned to Winneshiek County but not having Winneshiek County notifications are assigned today to other area counties.
