Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced Friday that she cannot recommend that Iowa's schools reopen in May. Instead, she announced that schools will stay closed for the rest of the school year.
The Decorah Community School District has been offering required distance learning classes for high school students and voluntary enrichment distance learning for younger students. The governor's announcement means those programs will continue through the end of the school year.
Governor Reynolds' announcement also means all spring sports will be cancelled. Department of Education officials say a decision will be made at a later date about summer sports.
