Gas prices continue to fall during the COVID-19 epidemic

Posted: Thu, Apr 16, 2020 11:40 AM

The national gas price average has steadily declined for seven weeks now because of sharply decreased demand for gas.

The Minnesota-Iowa AAA says since late February demand for gasoline has decreased 44 percent nationally to 5 million barrels/day.

The national average price for a gallon of gas is $1.86, 44 cents cheaper than a month ago and nearly $1 less than a year ago.

The Midwest has some of the lowest gas prices in the country. Minnesota-Iowa AAA says the average price for a gallon of gas in Iowa is $1.53. Gas is selling for $1.49 a gallon in Cresco, Waukon and Decorah, but it's selling as low as $1.05 a gallon in Hokah and La Crosse. One of the place with the lowest gas prices in the country remains Red Wing, Minnesota, where a gallon of gas this week is again selling for 99 cents.
