Former Decorah High School and Luther College football player Bryce Pierce, who has been serving as an assistant coach at Independence High School, has been hired as the head football coach at Perry High School.
Pierce was approved Monday night to lead the program following the resignation of Matt Hardy during the off-season.
Perry High School Activities Director Tom Lipovac said, "Coach Pierce's standards and expectations are consistent with the core values of Bluejay Way and a one team, educationally based activities program for students. He has a vision and program development action plan designed to guide students in personal growth and achievements."
Pierce is 24 years old, which means he will most likely be the youngest head football coach in Iowa this fall, at least in the 3A conference.
While Pierce was on the football team at Decorah High School, the Vikings won 25 games in a row, including an undefeated regular season in 2013 when Pierce was the quarterback. At Luther College, Bryce played quarterback, safety, wide receiver, and punt returner. After graduating, he worked at Independence High School on special teams and as a receiver/defensive back coach.
