The floor of the Decorah High School gym is being refinished this week

Decorah High School has been closed for four weeks because of the coronavirus epidemic.  However, Decorah School District officials have been able to take advantage of that time to get some work done on the high school's gym floor.

Athletic Director Adam Riley says a company was brought in last summer to refinish the gym floor, but school district staffers weren't happy with the results, resulting in the school district witholding $27,000 in payments to the contractor.  The contractor has now returned to the gym to satisfy the complaints.  Workers have been doing staining, painting, and finishing of the gym floor while students are absent.  The work is expected to continue for a little longer.  If school officials are satisfied with the latest repairs, the school district will send a check to the contractor for the remaining balance.
