Anytime Fitness in Decorah is doing something unique to get people motivated and moving during the coronavirus pandemic. They are encouraging people to register for their Quarantine Fifteen Virtual 15K.
Decorah Anytime Fitness owner Vicki Ahlstrom explains, "A 15k is just 9.3 miles. You can walk, run, or bike it all at once or a little bit at a time. Participating helps support our locally owned and operated small business and gives you a fun way to stay active during this strange time."
"I can't take credit for the idea," explains Ahlstrom. "It actually came from another Anytime Fitness owner who owns a club in Florida. She came up with the idea and shared it in a Facebook group. Anytime Fitness is a franchise, but many don't realize that each club is locally owned and operated. We have fabulous support from Anytime Fitness Corporate, and so many owners and employees are supportive of each other and willing to share ideas they've come up with."
Ahlstrom thought a virtual 15K would be a fun way to motivate people in the Decorah area to get some movement in during these strange times. "It's going to be more important now than ever to stay healthy and active for our physical and mental health," says Ahlstrom. "I look forward seeing all my members back in the club. I've gotten so many messages that they really miss the gym and that makes me very excited to get back to our normal routine once we can re-open the club!"
There are currently 42 people registered for Anytime Fitness' Quarantine Fifteen Virtual 15K , and Ahlstrom says she would love to reach 50 participants before registration closes on April 20th. The cost to participate is $35 which includes a t-shirt. The 15K can be completed all at once or it can be broken up into segments and completed anytime before May 9th.
