No official report has been issued yet by the Iowa DOT following a visit by one of its bridge inspectors to Winneshiek County in late March. But Winneshiek County Engineer Lee Bjerke told county supervisors on Monday that the inspector told him he had found "nothing major" in the way of bridge problems.
Bjerke says only one bridge was discussed with the state inspector—the first bridge on the west end of Cattle Creek Road. Bjerke says there's likely to be a ruling by the Iowa DOT that the weight limit for that bridge should be lowered. That wouldn't be a surprise to local officials, which is why Bjerke told supervisors Monday that he was pleased with the initial results of the bridge inspections.
