District #3 Supervisor candidate Julie Askelson has lived in both rural Decorah and in-town Decorah. She currently lives north of Decorah on the Middle Hesper Road in Canoe Township and has filed papers to be one of two Republican candidates in the June 2nd primary.
Askelson graduated from Decorah High School, earned a B.A. in Elementary Education/History minor from Luther College, and completed a Master's degree from Viterbo University in Education/PreK-12 Educational Administrative Leadership.
She says her skills as a former school administrator equip her to serve on the County Board. "I understand how funding sources from different levels (local, state, federal) may or may not be used in conjunction with one another. I possess leadership skills in which I focus on listening, asking questions and emphasize the importance of follow-through with conversations, qualities required for making solid decisions. I have had experience with difficult conversations regarding accountability with school patrons; and, as in education where you are responsible to school district stakeholders, the office of supervisor is not about me, but about accountability to the stakeholders of Winneshiek County."
