New response to COVID-19 will lead to the closing of parks and campgrounds in Decorah

Monday morning Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed a proclamation closing all public campgrounds and all outdoor playgrounds through April 30th.

The proclamation goes into effect Tuesday morning.  Previously, the Decorah Parks & Recreation Department had been allowing those with self-contained campers to use the Decorah Campground, but the new state regulations will supersede the local rules.

Decorah Parks and Recreation staffers also had planned to shut down playground equipment and tables and shelters at city parks, but with the proclamation, the outdoor playgrounds will be completely shut down.
