Winneshiek County Supervisors are learning that the solution to solving recent problems with the new Burr Oak sewer system probably will involve spending more money.
Supervisor Mark Kuhn, who has been meeting with Burr Oak officials about the issue, told his fellow supervisors Monday that four small 25 gallons-a-minute pumps installed to pump sewage up to a drainage field are inadequate to handle to outflow from two 95 gallons-a-minute pumps within Burr Oak itself. New pumps, he reported, could cost around $3,500 apiece. There might also be additional costs associated with additional plumbing work. "The problem is in the pumps," Kuhn told the county board.
