Local property tax payments can be made in April without being charged a penalty

If you still haven't paid your Winneshiek County property tax installment as of the March 31st deadline, you still have a chance to make that payment without being charged a penalty.

When Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds on Thursday extended the State Public Health Emergency through April 30th, one of the details of her announcement was that the imposition of penalties and interest for people who were late in their payment was prohibited during April.  In fact, the governor's proclamation signed following her announcement states penalties on late payment of property taxes will also be offered for "any future extension of this suspension."

The Winneshiek County Treasurer's Office says property owners can mail their payments to the office at 201 West Main Street in Decorah or physically bring the payment to the Courthouse in an envelope and leave the payment in the dropbox just outside the main entrance to the Courthouse.
