March weather in Decorah was warm and wet

Not a single day in Decorah in March set a record for highest recorded temperature on that day. And yet Decorah ended with an average temperature of 40.3 degrees, which was 7.6 degrees higher than the average for March in Decorah.
Decorah weather statistician Richard Bernatz says the average low temperature in Decorah in March was 32.2 degrees--9.5 degrees higher than the average. One day in the month had a low temperature which was below the historical average of 22.7 degrees.
Comparing all Marches since 1893, when record keeping began in Decorah, only nine Marches had warmer averages. Historically, temperatures in Decorah in March have ranged anywhere from 33 degrees below zero in 1962 to 84 degrees above zero in 1895 and 1986.
Decorah received a total of 2.72 inches of precipitation in March--0.84 inches more than average. Only 27 Marches have been wetter since 1893. Decorah still has a precipitation surplus of 13.19 inches over the last 12 months.
