The Iowa Department of Public Health announced Friday that there are now 235 cases of Iowans who have tested positive for COVID-19.

There have been a total of 3,740 negative tests to date, which includes testing reported by the State Hygienic Lab and other labs. That's a total of 3,975 tests taken of Iowans suspected of having COVID-19, meaning 5.9 percent of those tested have had positive results, while 94.1 percent have tested negative.

However, health officials say the current precautions being taken for COVID-19 are aimed at preventing a spike in coronavirus cases, one which would overwhelm hospitals and other health care providers.
