The filing deadline has passed for candidates to run for an elected position in Winneshiek County. There will be several contested races determined in the June 2nd primary.

In County Supervisor District 3, Democrat Shirley Vermace has no opposition, but there will be two Republicans running—Julie Askelson and Darrin W. Walter.

In County Supervisor District 4, six candidates have filed papers.  Democrats David A. Hageman and Caite Palmer will face each other June 2nd, while the Republican primary will feature Daniel Langreck, Kent Lensch and Devin Humpal.  The winners of the Democratic and Republican primaries will be joined on the November ballot by independent candidate Alvin Herold.

In County Supervisor District 5, Democrats Mark Kuhn and Tim Lecander will square off, while Ronald Fulsaas and Mark Vick will be the two Republican candidates.  Independent Scott H. Fjelstul will join the two primary winners on the November ballot.

Three other county elections will not be contested.  County Auditor Ben Steines and county Sheriff Dan Marx, both Republicans, face no opposition, while County Treasurer Brenda Kreitzer, running as an independent, also will be unopposed.
