Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce gift card sale is already a success

The Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce has sent out the first round of gift cards to local businesses purchased online by people as a way to support Decorah businesses—and the numbers are impressive.

740 gift certificates were distributed, with a total value of $16,100.  Says Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kristina Wiltgen, "The feedback from both the buyers and local business has been very touching. We certainly live in a great place."

Orders are still coming in daily. Decorah businesses participating in the program will receive 100 percent of the value of the gift certificates.  All transaction fees are being covered by a donor.

Decorah businesses that might be interested in placing orders as employee incentives or rewards can call the Chamber of Commerce at (563)382-3990.

Wiltgen says she has been contacted by Chambers of Commerce in Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, South Dakota and Iowa, asking questions about how the Decorah program works.
