Winneshiek County Public Health Director: Still only one confirmed case of coronavirus in Winneshiek County

Winneshiek County has not gotten any further reports of a resident with the COVID-19 coronavirus.

That's the midday Monday report from Winneshiek County Public Health Director Krista Vanden Brink, who says the one person diagnosed as having COVID-19 was doing well as of Saturday, with no cough and no aches.  The COVID-19 patient will remain in self-isolation for another seven days more.

Vanden Brink says the biggest problem right now is that regular flu continues to sweep through the county, with symptoms that are "too similar" to the coronavirus.  That's why it's important for someone to call a health professional first, so they can ask questions about symptoms and determine whether someone should or shouldn't be tested or whether they should stay home for 14 days.

"For the most part, people are staying home," Vanden Brink told supervisors Monday, adding that staying home helps to bring down the spread of the coronavirus.
