The local Hannah Lee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is announcing winners in three grades of this year's American History essay contest.

The fifth grade winner is Margaret Hahn, the daughter of Brent and Amanda Hahn.  The sixth grade winner is Maddy Lippe, the daughter of Ron and Vicki Lippe.  The seventh grade winner is Lillian Olson, the daughter of Matthew and Karla Olson.

Other students who submitted essays were Rachel Spilde-Maki, Sawyer Breitsprecher, Lauren Kelly, James Stigler, Haylee Jeglum, Eireann Goettel and Lauryn Bulman.

This year's essay contest celebrated the 400th anniversary of the voyage of the Mayflower and the founding of the Plymouth Colony.  Students were asked to answer the question, "Imagine you are one of the passengers on the Mayflower. Knowing what materials were available in 1620, what would you have packed to prepare for the trip and starting a new life in the wilderness? After experiencing more than two months at sea then finally landing at Plymouth Colony on November 9, 1620, do you think you would have made different choices and why?"
